Concussion Policy

Concussions can happen in any recreational activity, game or practice.

A concussion is a brain injury caused by a blow to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull.
Even a small bump to the head (head collision with player, goal posts, or hitting the ground) can be serious and result in a concussion.  It is important to know the signs and symptoms of a brain injury.

While making sure players wear the correct protective equipment can help reduce sports injuries, it is important to follow the correct procedures for possible concussions.  For that reason, SSYSA will follow the regulations set and practiced by NCYSA when it comes to concussions.  http://www.ncyouthsoccer.com/pdfs/NCYSAPlayingRules.pdf  (starting page 39)

Beginning with the Fall 2015 season, the SSYSA will require all coaches and essential volunteers to review and complete the online concussions module:  Heads Up Concussion in Youth Sports
