Frequently Asked Questions
What is the age deadline for determining age level?
August 1 is the important date to keep in mind. This date determines which age level the children will fall in for Fall/Spring. The players move up in the Fall and remain in that age bracket for the following Spring.
For Fall / Spring Soccer:
Any child who is already FOUR but who has not turned SIX by August 1 will be in the U6 age bracket. |
|
Any child who has already turned SIX but who has not turned EIGHT by August 1 will be in the U8 age bracket. |
|
Any child who has already turned EIGHT but who has not turned TEN by August 1 will be in the U10 age bracket. |
|
Any child who has already turned TEN but who has not turned TWELVE by August 1 will be in the U12 age bracket. In this age bracket, we usually split the girls and boys into their own teams, depending on how many player we have signed up. |
|
Will our game be played in adverse weather?
The SSYSA board has adopted the following weather policy.
If the temperature falls below 35 degrees or goes above 95 degrees, the games will be cancelled. |
|
Games will also be cancelled if there is snow or thunderstorms. |
|
For rain days, it is up to the Field Coordinator to inspect our field to see if they are in ok game condition. (Our field coordinator is Lark Hubbard.) He will make this determination and then contact the division coordinators for each age group. This decision will be made at 8 am on game day.
The division coordinators then contact the coaches. The coaches then call the parents/players to inform them of the weather decision. If you have NOT BEEN CALLED, the game is on as planned |
Special Message to Our Parents: |
In light of the recent events in youth sports, we have all been examining the issue of good sportsmanship both on the field and on the sidelines. Our coaches have been asked to sign a special agreement indicating that they acknowledge the importance of good sportsmanship and that they intend to abide by it. Anyone receiving demerits will submit to a review by the SSYSA Discipline and Appeals Committee. |
Along these same lines, we would like for our parents to read and acknowledge receipt of good Soccer Mom/Dad sportsmanship. You may have heard how other leagues have forced parents to watch a video on sportsmanship or are holding Silent Soccer Weekends. In the next week or so, your coaches will have forms that we would like for your to review, sign, and return to your coach. |
Remember, we are involved in this league and this sport for the good of our kids. Our kids need to be taught not only good soccer fundamentals, but good overall sportsmanship as well. They need to learn about winning and losing gracefully. We hope you will support us in this endeavor to embrace good sportsmanship. |
